Tarun K. Gupta, MD
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Gupta served as a member of the medical school and teaching hospital faculty at Yale School of Medicine for several years. He opened his gastroenterology practice in the Fairfield Connecticut area 10 years ago. Dr. Tarun K. Gupta is board certified in gastroenterology with special emphasis in nutrition and weight loss. Gastroenterology is the field of medicine that focuses on the functions and diseases of the digestive tract, more properly called the gastrointestinal tract. Because of his expertise in gastroenterology, Dr. Gupta has a thorough understanding of the role the gastrointestinal track plays in regulating digestion, the first phases of nutrient utilization, and producing hormones and other chemicals that communicate hunger as well as fullness to the brain. He has a strong interest in how chronic overeating effects the way the body regulates hunger and fullness, and the effect over consumption of certain nutrients has on the organs like the liver that play a key role in the digestive process and glucose (blood sugar) balance. Dr. Gupta's training in gastroenterology has prepared him to help people who have undergone bariatric (weight loss) surgery adjust to the changes in the function of their gastrointestinal tracts. Dr. Gupta also has the expertise to help weight loss surgery patients prevent or overcome nutritional deficiencies they may develop as a side effect of their surgery. |
