Specialized Nutritional Services

In addition to providing a variety of comprehensive weight management programs, the Nutrition and Weight Management Center (NWMC) of Fairfield provides a full line of nutritional services and dietetic counseling.

Our registered dietician, Renu Vij, M.S., R.D., CDN, is available at our location and has 25 years of experience in nutrition assessment and counseling with special training in weight management. She also has unique expertise designing therapeutic diets that include favorite ethnic foods. You should not have to choose between your favorite ethnic foods and a healthy lifestyle-Renu can help you have both.

Nutritional Services Available at the NWMC:

  • Personalized instruction in nutritional strategies to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other chronic conditions
  • Customized meal plans and eating strategies for individuals undergoing cancer therapy or seeking to eat healthy to stay in remission
  • Personalized nutritional plans and eating strategies to improve overall wellness
  • Individualized ethnic diet counseling to help patients make the necessary nutritional changes to improve their health while still eating many of their favorite ethnic foods

Why Seek Nutrition Counseling?

The nutrition services we offer can help you improve your overall health and well-being, reduce your risk of chronic diseases, and find ways to eat the food you like without worrying about gaining weight.

A well balanced diet can have a profound impact on your health. Every day you make food choices that affect how well your body functions now and how at risk you are for developing chronic diseases in the future. These choices impact how well you feel and how much energy you have to perform your daily activities.

A nutritious diet, combined with a moderate physical activity program, can help to reverse many lifestyle-driven chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. If you have been diagnosed with one or more of these conditions and are currently using medication to control them, you may be able to eliminate the need for these prescriptions by following a healthy diet and activity program.

What Could I Learn from A Dietitian?

The nutrition services we offer can teach you how to decipher food labels, cook appetizing and healthy meals, make your daily meals more balanced and nutritious, chose healthy food from restaurant menus, learn eating strategies for particular occasions, and answer other questions you may have about nutrition. You already know that you need to eat healthy foods, but putting that into practice in your daily life has its own set of challenges. It is often easier to just fall back on old eating habits. Our dietician can help you make lasting, positive, healthy changes in your life that will eventually replace those old habits and help you navigate the changing tide of information on the healthy properties of food.
